Former Real Madrid and Germany midfielder, Sami Khedira, has named his former teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo, as the greatest footballer in history, ahead of Lionel Messi.
Khedira, who played alongside Ronaldo for seven years at both Real Madrid and Juventus, expressed his loyalty to the Portuguese star.
The debate over who is the world’s greatest footballer, Ronaldo or Messi, has sparked division among fans, players, and pundits for over a decade. Ronaldo is known for his athleticism and goal-scoring ability, while Messi is celebrated for his technical brilliance and playmaking skills.
Having played alongside Ronaldo in Spain and Italy, Khedira is a strong advocate for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.
In an interview with talkSPORT, Khedira was asked to choose between the two football icons. He said, “From my point of view, it’s Cristiano. It’s not a disrespect against Messi because what he has achieved and is still doing, especially in the U.S. is amazing.
“But I know Cristiano; I played with him for seven years in Madrid and Juventus. I know him personally quite well, so I’m 100 per cent team Ronaldo, but with all due respect to Messi.”
Khedira and Ronaldo shared a locker room at Santiago Bernabéu from 2010 to 2015, winning the 2013-14 UEFA Champions League among other titles. They later reunited at Juventus in 2018, where they spent another three seasons together.
