The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) confirmed that a missile fired from Yemen was intercepted early this morning before entering Israeli airspace.

According to military protocol, sirens were activated in the Jerusalem and Dead Sea regions at around 2:40 a.m. as a precaution against potential falling debris;

However, the IDF did not specify whether an Israeli or U.S. missile defence system carried out the interception; sources suggest that an American system took part in the operation.

This is the first time the U.S.-deployed missile defence battery has been used operationally since it arrived in Israel in October.

The Houthi rebel group in Yemen launched the missile as part of a larger campaign that has reportedly seen the group fire over 200 missiles and 170 drones towards Israel in the past year.

The Houthis, known for their anti-Israel rhetoric, have upped their attacks in recent weeks, prompting millions of Israelis to take shelter during nocturnal siren alerts virtually daily for the previous 10 days.

With Israeli and allied systems cooperating to defend the country, the IDF declared its readiness to confront these persistent threats.

The Houthis’ growing regional capabilities and congruence with Iran’s larger geopolitical goals are indicated by the increased missile activity.

The group has openly professed its dedication to the destruction of Israel and the Jewish people, causing security worries not only in Israel but also across the Middle East.
