Mohammad Mokhber: What you should know about Iran’s Acting President

Following the passing of President Ebrahim Raisi, Mohammad Mokhber, the vice president of Iran, was named acting president of the Islamic Republic on Monday.

Raisi lost her life in a helicopter crash on Sunday in the northwest of the nation.

Mokhber was named the nation’s acting president by Ayatollah Ali Khamenei a few hours after the death was formally verified.

In August 2021, Mr. Mokhber, who is approximately 68 years old, was appointed Iran’s First Vice President.

The newly appointed acting president was born and raised in Khuzestan Province, which borders Iraq and the Persian Gulf in southwest Iran. 

During the Iran-Iraq conflict in the 1980s, he was a deputy governor and a member of the Revolutionary Guards medical corps.

Mokhber has prior experience in the banking and telecom industries. In addition, he was employed by the Mostazafan Foundation, a large corporation that oversees the nation’s enterprises and megaprojects.

Regarding his possible entry into the Iranian market, he engaged in a contentious legal battle with Turkcell and MTN, the mobile phone service provider in South Africa.

Mokhber was appointed vice president by the now-deceased Raisi following his tenure in high positions at some of Iran’s most powerful institutions, such as the Mostazafan Foundation, Sina Bank, and Setad.
