Nigerian rapper Azeez Fashola, widely known as Naira Marley, has called on the Lagos State Police Command to intensify their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of his former signee, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, also known as Mohbad.

In a video released via his official YouTube channel on Tuesday, the rapper shared his account of the events and reaffirmed his innocence in connection with Mohbad’s death.

Naira Marley also urged law enforcement to re-arrest not only himself but also his associate, Samson Balogun, popularly called Samlarry, along with others who have been implicated in the singer’s death. He emphasized that the case should now be handled by a credible and impartial officer.

“I came back to Nigeria to support the police because I can see fingers pointing our ways. So I had to come back so that they can actually have nothing to do with it and check whoever so that he can get justice,” he said.

“I was in Panti for two months. After I came out from Panti, I was fighting for my passport, they held my passport. I was like, it’s okay to question me [over Mohbad’s death], but there’s no reason to detain me. I haven’t seen him for over a year. But it’s okay. There was a conspiracy and gang-up to keep me there. As you can see, the group chat got leaked, they even mentioned the name of the officer in charge of the case in Panti. They were also talking about judge.

“If you ask me, I will tell the Police to arrest everybody again. Put an officer we can trust in charge,” he said.

He also disclosed that he had reached an agreement with Mohbad’s lawyer to hand over the late singer’s royalties to whichever family member is appointed by the court to manage his estate.

Mohbad passed away under unclear circumstances on September 12, 2023. His sudden death sparked public outrage, with many pointing fingers at his former label boss, Naira Marley, and Samlarry. Both men were later detained by authorities at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Panti and held for two months before being released after fulfilling their bail conditions.

Mohbad’s childhood friend, Owodunni Ibrahim, known as Prime Boy, was also taken into custody during the course of the investigation but was subsequently granted bail. In a July 2025 interview with controversial commentator VeryDarkMan, Prime Boy denied ever getting into a physical altercation with Mohbad during their final outing at the D’General Bitters show in Ikorodu on September 10, 2023.

Additionally, the auxiliary nurse who administered the injection suspected to have led to Mohbad’s death, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, was arrested.

Based on reports from two separate pathologists who conducted autopsies, the Lagos State Coroner’s Court concluded that the body’s advanced state of decomposition made it impossible to pinpoint an exact cause of death.

Presiding Magistrate C.A. Shotobi remarked that, while no signs of foul play could be established, the findings suggest the death likely stemmed from medical negligence.

The court has directed the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to initiate legal proceedings against Nurse Feyisayo Ogedengbe.
