Following the death of his neighbor, Ekopimo Effiong Moses, in a violent altercation in the Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has verified the arrest of Joseph Okon Eren, 37.

In a statement released on Sunday, September 14, 2025, DSP Timfon John, the command spokeswoman, stated that the incident happened on Thursday night, September 11, following a furious dispute between the two individuals that turned into a fatal machete duel.

The story claims that Moses, 34, the community’s youth president, was taken to a local hospital for emergency care after suffering significant knife cuts during the brawl. The accompanying physician later declared him dead.

“The suspect, Joseph Okon Eren, who hails from Ikot Obiondobo in Uruan LGA but resides in the village, was taken into custody shortly after the incident,” the statement read. “A machete believed to have been used in the attack has also been recovered as evidence.”

According to the police, the village chief was the first to report the fight after the two men’s argument descended into violence.

The body of the deceased youth leader has been placed at the morgue, and Eren is presently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department.

DSP John added that a covert inquiry is being conducted to determine the complete circumstances of the tragedy. “Further details will be made public as the investigation progresses,” she said.

The Ibesikpo Asutan village is in grief as a result of the event, and locals are urging for calm and moderation in settling conflicts.
