As more state governors are ready to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria is seeing a surge of political defections.
Sheriff Oborevwori, the governor of Delta State, recently made news when he defected from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC. This decision has increased political speculation in the run-up to the general elections in 2027.
Abdullahi Sule, the governor of Nasarawa State, stated that Oborevwori’s decision to join the APC would not be the last and that a number of other governors would likely follow suit.
Governor Sule was upbeat about the increasing interest in the APC during his appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday. He pointed out that many politicians, including governors, are keen to join the party.
Many lawmakers praised President Bola Tinubu’s leadership style, and Governor Sule credited this increase in defections to the president’s reforms and leadership.
He underlined that the governors’ pleasure and passion during meetings with the president are clear because they feel valued and welcomed by the administration.
More political heavyweights are expected to join the APC in the upcoming months, indicating a dramatic change in the political landscape of the country, even if it is yet uncertain how many governors will defect.
