MRS, one of the major distributors of Dangote refinery’s products, has increased the pump price of premium motor spirit (petrol) to N925 in Lagos, effective June 21, 2025. The price adjustment follows the Dangote refinery’s decision to raise the ex-depot price of petrol from N825 to N880 per litre.
According to MRS, the new prices vary across regions, with customers in the Southeast paying N955 per litre, while those in Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Osun, and Ekiti will pay N935 per litre. In the North East, petrol will cost N955 per litre, while customers in the North West and the North Central will pay N945 per litre
The recent price hike is attributed to the Dangote refinery’s adjustment, which has triggered a chain reaction among petrol distributors. It is expected that other Dangote partners, such as Heyden and AP, will follow suit and raise their pump prices soon.
The price increase has sparked concerns about the impact on consumers, with the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) president, Festus Osifo, accusing oil marketers of exploiting Nigerians through inflated petrol prices. “The current pump price of PMS should range between N700 and N750 per litre,” Osifo said, criticizing the disparity between falling global crude oil prices and the stagnant retail price of petrol in Nigeria
