Nafiu Bala, a factional leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has denounced a resignation letter allegedly bearing his name as fake and the product of dishonest political scheming.

In a statement released by Dr. Christopher Okechukwu, Director of Media and Public Affairs in the Office of the National Chairman, it was clarified that the letter, dated May 18, 2025, was neither written nor signed by Bala. It was also noted that the document lacked the ADC’s official stamp.

The statement emphasized that Nafiu Bala remains in his role as chairman and continues to serve in accordance with the guidelines outlined in the party’s constitution. It described the letter as a fabricated document intended to cause unrest and disrupt the party’s trajectory.

He said the National Leadership of the African Democratic Congress under the legitimate and constitutionally recognized Acting National Chairman, Nafiu Bala, issued the statement to categorically deny the existence of any legitimate resignation letter from Nafiu Bala.”

According to the statement, Bala has never resigned as Deputy National Chairman nor has he relinquished his leadership role, having assumed his position through the proper channels defined by the ADC’s constitution.

”The fraudulent document, the statement explained lacks the official party letterhead, emblems, or insignia. It represents a desperate attempt to create confusion and destabilise the party’s operations.

The statement said that the ADC affirmed that according to its’s constitution, ”any individual seeking to assume a leadership position must be a registered member of the party for at least one year, maintain current financial obligations and membership status and follows due process in leadership transitions.”

The statement concluded with a call to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to disregard any illegitimate documents and continue to recognize Nafiu Bala’s leadership. Party members across the nation were also urged to stay alert and resist false information campaigns.
