Self-styled activist Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, claimed that Nigerian singer Naira Marley was more popular than his peers Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy before he became a target of cancel culture amid allegations related to the death of his former signee, Mohbad.
He made this statement while discussing the dangers of cancel culture in a recent TikTok video, highlighting that Naira Marley’s fanbase, known as Marlians, was the largest in the country before the singer was “cancelled.”
VDM said, “Naira Marley was bigger than Wizkid, Burna boy and Davido. He had a very large fanbase both in Nigeria and abroad until this Mohbad issue. The music industry is so dark. The jealousy in the industry is too much.”
He called on the relevant authorities to resolve the matters concerning Mohbad’s death so that the public can move past it.
It was recalled that a court recently dismissed Mohbad’s father’s lawsuit against Naira Marley and his associate Sam Larry, ruling there was insufficient evidence to directly connect them to the death.
