The Governor emphasized his administration’s commitment to education reform, stating, “Our commitment to education reform includes initiatives to combat sector decay and foster partnerships, such as with the World Bank through the AGILE programme and with UNICEF.” He noted that the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, in collaboration with UNICEF, has formed a technical committee to identify and reintegrate out-of-school children into schools.

The school feeding programme is part of the state’s emergency response initiatives to promote enrollment and retention while fighting hunger and malnutrition. Governor Lawal added, “This is in addition to our engagement efforts with two other NGOs, the International Centre for Economic Development and FINPACT Development Foundation, which have agreed to support the state in implementing a pilot programme.

FINPACT Development Foundation will sponsor meals for 1,000 pupils in four local government areas, while the International Centre for Economic Development will sponsor meals for 3,300 pupils across three local government areas. The Governor urged stakeholders and donor agencies to explore more ways to support the programme, enhancing the state’s commitment to quality and inclusive education.

By launching this programme, Zamfara State aims to reduce the number of out-of-school children and make education more accessible and appealing to young learners.
