The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially endorsed the Global Governance Initiative (GGI), introduced by President Xi Jinping of China.

Mr. Joseph Tegbe, Director General of the Nigeria–China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), delivered the endorsement on Tuesday on behalf of President Bola Tinubu and the Nigerian government.

Speaking in Abuja, Tegbe described the Global Governance Initiative as a framework that addresses the aspirations of countries seeking fairness, inclusiveness, and shared progress within the global system.

He emphasized that the GGI’s vision aligns closely with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on economic revival, social inclusion, and active engagement on the international stage.

According to Tegbe, the GGI’s focus on sovereign equality, adherence to international law, and multilateral cooperation strongly reflects Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives.

He also highlighted Nigeria’s leadership in Africa’s longstanding demand for permanent seats on the United Nations Security Council, reaffirmed the nation’s role in peacekeeping and dispute resolution across West Africa, and noted Nigeria’s commitment to collective efforts through ECOWAS, the African Union, and the United Nations.

Tegbe explained that the initiative’s practical cooperation aspect offers concrete opportunities for Nigeria.

He added that with infrastructure, energy, and industrial corridors identified as key growth drivers, alongside the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy aimed at expanding broadband, fostering fintech innovation, and empowering youth, the GGI serves as an important platform for mobilizing resources and accelerating Nigeria’s development goals.

“The Global Governance Initiative is more than a vision, it is a call to action. Nigeria stands ready to work with China and other partners to translate this initiative into tangible progress for our citizens, for Africa, and for the world,” Tegbe stated.
