In a secret operation in Ogun State, the Nigeria Police Force captured Sunday Kotin, a well-known fugitive from the Benin Republic, and turned him over to security officials in Cotonou.

In a statement released on Sunday, Benjamin Hundeyin, the Force Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrest.

Kotin was accused of spearheading cross-border criminal activities, such as drug trafficking, cattle rustling, guns smuggling, and armed banditry. Kotin had previously been on Benin’s wanted list.

After receiving a request from Interpol Benin Republic, the suspect was pursued by Interpol Nigeria’s Police National Central Bureau, NCB.

According to Hundeyin, Kotin fled into Nigeria in order to avoid being apprehended, even though seven of his gang members are currently on trial in Benin.

“Working on credible intelligence, NPF–NCB operatives launched a discreet operation that led to Kotin’s arrest at Idi Iroko, in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.“

“The fugitive was later interrogated on his cross-border crimes before being formally handed over to NCB Cotonou officials,” Hundeyin stated.

Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police, praised the participating officers and said the operation demonstrated Nigeria’s dedication to working with other law enforcement agencies worldwide.

He reaffirmed that Nigeria will not harbor criminal organizations or runaways.

“Regardless of their influence or connections, criminals will find no safe haven in Nigeria. Our mandate remains the protection of our sovereignty, the rule of law, and the strengthening of global security cooperation,” the IGP declared.
