Nigerian Army neutralises 23 terrorists, rescues 26 captives

The Nigerian Army has reported the successful neutralization of 23 terrorists, the rescue of 26 hostages, and the arrest of 14 suspects during a series of coordinated military operations across Katsina, Borno, Adamawa, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to sources, troops from the 17 Brigade, working in conjunction with the Defence Special Operations Force and the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, launched a large-scale assault on September 6 at Pauwa village in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The offensive reportedly involved intense combat on Pauwa Hill, with support from both artillery and aerial strikes.

“During the encounter, 23 terrorists were neutralised while 12 women and 11 children held in captivity were rescued.

“Troops also recovered motorcycles, spare parts, food items, and other logistics, which were destroyed in situ,” the sources said.

In Borno State, four relatives of ISWAP/JAS members two women and two children voluntarily surrendered to personnel of the 192 Battalion in Gwoza Local Government Area after fleeing Lekshe village. Authorities confirmed that preliminary investigations and profiling were underway.

Elsewhere in the state, troops from the 19 Brigade apprehended an individual suspected of supplying logistics to terrorists in Kukawa Local Government Area. The suspect was caught attempting to transport materials from Cross Kauwa to Dawoshi village. Items seized included N55,000 in cash, a wristwatch, and a mobile phone.

In Adamawa, the 232 Battalion carried out a raid on a known criminal base in Muva village, Mubi North Local Government Area. Five suspects, believed to be involved in theft and drug-related activities, were arrested and handed over to law enforcement for further action.

In the Federal Capital Territory, soldiers from the 102 Guards Battalion operating under the Dei-Dei Quick Response Group apprehended three individuals suspected of involvement in phone snatching and other petty crimes around the Dei-Dei, Dakwa, and Zuba areas. Security forces recovered four phones and a smartwatch during the operation.

Additionally, troops in Katsina’s Matazu Local Government Area successfully rescued three abducted persons following a clash with fleeing terrorists near Shaiskawa village.

Military sources reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to maintaining public safety in support of national food security and economic development initiatives led by the Federal Government.
