A weekend of learning and business growth took centre stage at the Steven Akintayo Foundation’s (SAF) Business Growth Conference. Held at the Eko Hotel & Suites, the conference themed “Principle of Scaling Your Business to 10 Figures” brought together entrepreneurs from across Nigeria.

Internationally renowned business experts, including Wakanow’s Group Chief Executive Officer Bayo Adedeji, shared insights on scaling and growing businesses locally and internationally. Dr Steven Akintayo, SAF founder and Chairman of Gtext Holdings, emphasised the need to support entrepreneurs.

“We realised that many businesses in Nigeria are dying, with some data suggesting 90% fail within two to three years,” Akintayo said. “As entrepreneurs, we felt compelled to contribute to developing this nation by helping others scale and expand internationally… This conference is a business revolution that has started, and we look forward to making it an annual event.”

Bayo Adedeji highlighted key principles for saving a dying business, stressing customer understanding and business acumen. “Focus on your customers and understand them,” he advised. “You can’t build the best product if the customer isn’t willing to accept your method of doing business.”

Adedeji also emphasised the importance of understanding one’s business, saying, “You cannot save something you don’t understand… Find out why your business is failing.” For young entrepreneurs, he recommended gaining experience through employment or mentorship.

“Go get a job – it’ll help you understand the fundamentals of running a business,” Adedeji said. “I like the apprenticeship program that the Igbos do… You can never discount the knowledge gained from working in a structured environment.
