Nigerian Govt kicks as Nnamdi Kanu lists conditions for resumption of trial

The incarcerated leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra, or IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, issued criteria for the Federal Government to comply with, including the resumption of his trial.

Kanu consented to an expedited prosecution of the accusations against him during the hearing on Wednesday at the Federal High Court Abuja, citing that his requirements have been satisfied.

Before the trial could continue, the IPOB leader made a list of three requirements through his attorney, Aloy Ejimakor.

His demands included the restoration of the bail that had been granted to him earlier so that he could get ready for his defense.

He argued that the Federal Government’s erroneous and fraudulent claims were the reason the bail was mistakenly revoked.

Kanu also asked for the arrest order against him to be revoked, citing claims made by the government that he had skipped bail and fled the nation.

He further insisted that, as required by law, he must be able to see his lawyer without restriction.

The Biafra agitator stated that if the requirements were satisfied, he would be open to an expedited trial.

The Federal Government requested that the court reject the conditions on the grounds that they are unnecessary, vexatious, infuriating, and frivolous through the representation of Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN.

The senior attorney argued that since the court had already denied the bail request, it was powerless to overrule itself.

According to Awomolo, Kanu’s sole remaining option is to appeal the denied bail plea in court by going to the Court of Appeal.
