According to George Agbakahi, a leader of the South East Tinubu’s Support Group and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), President Bola Tinubu’s chances of winning reelection in the South East will be significantly impacted by the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

In an appearance with Arise Television’s Morning Show on Friday, Agbakahi made this claim.

He emphasized the Tinubu administration’s accomplishments in the area, particularly with regard to the growth of the infrastructure.

“You know, the President has done a whole lot in respect of infrastructure development in the South East. Almost the major roads in the South East are now under construction. Go to Enugu-Onitsha road that has not been touched by previous administrations, it is under construction,” he said.

“Go to Enugu-Port Harcourt road, the same thing is happening; it’s working, a very important economic road. Aba to Ikot Ekpene that has not been touched for the past almost 18 to 20 years is currently under construction as we speak.

“The issue of South East Development Center Commission, SEDC, with 150 billion naira, you know, for them to use in economic development is working.”

However, Agbakahi argued that Nnamdi Kanu’s ongoing arrest is still a crucial political issue that could affect regional voter opinion, independent of infrastructure.

“The president has done a lot in the South East, and the only area that I believe that is a major variable also in the South East is the issue of Nnamdi Kanu. That is a major variable that will also determine the election in the South East. And I’m quite sure that, as time goes on, our president is a father figure who understands the intricacies of politics and governance,” he added.
