The New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State has advised the Kano State House of Assembly to tread cautiously regarding attempts to oust the state’s elected deputy governor.
On Thursday, the party released a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Karaye, in which it issued the warning.
The party stated that, in light of the current political realignments and defections, the Assembly should acknowledge that an elected official cannot be compelled to make decisions that contradict his principles.
The NNPP also called on the Kano State Government to steer clear of actions that might result in an avoidable political crisis.
The party stated that the political climate in Kano is already sensitive, and any actions that could exacerbate the situation should be avoided.
Additionally, the party asserted that its members are law-abiding individuals who have a strong belief in the rule of law.
It thus demanded that its members be permitted to express their political opinions freely, without fear of bias or intimidation.
It is worth recalling that on Thursday, the Kano State House of Assembly commenced impeachment proceedings against Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo due to allegations of gross misconduct, abuse of office, and breach of public trust.
