The Nigerian Tulip International Colleges (NTIC) has made a significant investment in the future of Nigeria’s youth, awarding scholarships worth over ₦200 million to exceptional students across the country. The prestigious awards were presented at the 22nd National Mathematics Competition (ANMC), a flagship event organised by NTIC in collaboration with the National Mathematical Centre (NMC).
The competition, which drew participants from over 30 states, showcased the country’s brightest young minds in mathematics. Fifty-two students were recognised for their outstanding performance, with over 50 others receiving scholarships and cash prizes. The top winners in each category received medals, with Shedrack Udeh Jr of Diamond Special School, Imo State, claiming the gold medal in the primary category. Olasehinde Darasimi of Genius Tonic Heights, Ondo State, won silver, while Ifeanyi Einstein from Pleroma International School, Rivers State, secured the bronze medal.
In the junior secondary category, Mamman Jamaladeen Tahir, a student of Air Force Secondary School, Shasha, Lagos, emerged as the top winner, beating over 10,000 participants. Tahir credited his success to his dedication and perseverance, saying, “Sometimes, I stayed up till 1 a.m. to study. I just kept pushing and trusted God.
The winners received cash prizes ranging from ₦100,000 to ₦500,000 and partial and full scholarships. Their teachers and schools also benefitted from the initiative, receiving cash rewards and educational resources. NTIC’s Managing Director, Fevzullah Bilgin, emphasised the organisation’s commitment to nurturing young talent and promoting mathematics education. “The ANMC is not just a contest; it’s a platform to give back. We want to inspire a lifelong love for mathematics and support children who could change the country through knowledge and innovation,” Bilgin said.
The event highlighted the importance of mathematics education in driving national development. Prof. Promise Mebine, Director of NMC, praised the partnership with NTIC, saying it has set a new standard for mathematics competitions in the country. ANMC Coordinator, Erdal Yilmaz, added that the competition plays a vital role in discovering and nurturing academic talent. “These young minds represent the remarkable potential within our nation, and NTIC remains committed to offering opportunities that challenge and elevate students academically,” Yilmaz said.
With nearly 90 students benefiting from the NTIC-ANMC full scholarship scheme, Bilgin disclosed that over ₦600 million is expended yearly on scholarships and competitions. The initiative demonstrates NTIC’s commitment to investing in the future of Nigeria’s youth and promoting academic excellence
