A Chief Magistrate’s court in Akure has placed a 32-year-old man under detention for the suspected murder of his 68-year-old father.
Sunday Abilewa, the suspect who was charged with murder, is accused of killing his father, Abu Abilewa, by strangulation because he didn’t get him a motorbike.
On December 31, 2024, Abilewa is accused of committing the crime at his father’s home in the state’s Eberi quarters, Isua Akoko, Akoko South East Local Government Area.
Inspector Abdulateef Suleiman, the prosecutor, stated that the offence was punished under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Vol. II, Laws of Ondo State, 2006, and that it violated Section 316.
“The defendant allegedly approached the deceased to buy him a new motorcycle, but the deceased refused.
“It led to an argument, and in the process, the defendant grabbed the neck of his father, which resulted in his death.
”Efforts of the defendant’s mother to rescue the deceased proved abortive as the defendant was under the influence of hard drugs.”
However, in order to await the Director of Public Prosecutions’ (DPP) advice, the prosecutor asked the court to remand the defendant in a prison facility.
Mrs. F.A. Akinboboye, the magistrate, ordered the defendant to be remanded until the DPP’s office provided advice. She then postponed the case until February 25, 2025, for mention.
