Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has revealed that his administration has faced opposition due to its refusal to implement security votes.

In a statement released on Friday by his spokesperson Olawale Rasheed, the governor reaffirmed that all security expenditures in the state are strictly managed through approved budgetary allocations.

He said, “Under my watch, we don’t operate security votes in the sense Nigerians understand it. I face resistance over the policy but I stick to it even at great cost.”

Governor Adeleke clarified that Osun State does not maintain any slush funds, commonly known as security votes.

He emphasized that all security-related expenses follow public finance laws and regulations.

According to the governor, “Security-related spending covers operational support for agencies working in the state, operations to address communal crises, assistance for peace-building efforts, and the running of the state’s security network, Amotekun.

“These expenditures are undertaken within statutory approval processes, which involve raising memos and complying with government payment procedures.”

Adeleke highlighted that his administration adopted this approach to preserve state funds for developmental purposes.

“I believe Osun needs every kobo to meet her numerous developmental challenges. Our earnings from FAAC allocations and internally generated revenues are channelled to infrastructure, agriculture, health, and other key sectors,” he noted.

He further pointed out that paying workers’ salaries, pensions, and outstanding debts remain priorities, stressing the state’s effort to maintain a balance between human capital and infrastructure growth.

The governor also disclosed the establishment of a special project account designed to manage unexpected revenue inflows from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), which acts as a cushion and ensures the completion of ongoing projects.

Expressing confidence in resolving challenges related to seized local government funds, Governor Adeleke assured citizens and stakeholders that his administration remains committed to delivering both human and infrastructural development projects within set timelines.
