Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has voiced his disappointment with the Benin-Owena River Basin Development Authority (BORBDA), criticizing its approach to development efforts within the state.

He stated that despite repeated efforts to partner with the agency on various initiatives, Ekiti State has yet to experience any tangible benefits from its operations.

Speaking during a meeting held on Monday in Ado Ekiti with the newly appointed leadership of BORBDA, led by its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Olufemi Adekanmbi, the Governor remarked that the agency had not adequately supported the state’s developmental goals.

Expressing dissatisfaction over what he described as a lack of substantial input from the agency toward the progress of Ekiti, Governor Oyebanji revealed that his administration had deliberately left the agency out of its strategic plans due to its underwhelming performance. He emphasized the necessity for a more impactful and transparent approach going forward.

Highlighting the value of collaboration among public institutions and relevant stakeholders in achieving long-term growth, he encouraged the new management to back up their promises with real and visible development efforts in the state.

The Governor added that his administration is open to working with the authority provided there is a clear change in their level of engagement and commitment.

“I need to refresh our memories about our experience with Benin-Owena. They have not been fair to us. We have gained nothing from them.

“We have crafted our development strategy without you in our plan because every attempt to collaborate with you has been frustrated. We are investing massively in agriculture in the state and Benin-Owena has no contribution to it.

“However, I have read your speech; it shows that you want to do things differently. But we have listened to beautiful speeches that didn’t translate to action.

“So, for those projects that are already in the budget concerning Ekiti State, whatever we can do to ensure that we fast-track development, I am ready to do that,” the governor added.
