The appeal filed by Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who is contesting the Court of Appeal’s decision, has been scheduled for hearing by the Supreme Court on Friday, January 12.
ZINGTIE recalls that Yusuf, elected on the New Nigeria People’s Party platform, NNPP, was dismissed by the Kano State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Nasir Yusuf Gawuna was ordered by the court to have a certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the March 2023 election.
However, Governor Yusuf went to the Appeal Court because he was unhappy with the decision.
The appellate court concluded that the governor was not a member of NNPP at the time of the election, even though it upheld his dismissal.
The governor and his party filed an appeal against the earlier decisions to bring the case to a close before the Supreme Court.
Barrister Bashir Tudun Wuzirci, the NNPP’s legal team secretary, told Daily Trust on Wednesday that the verdict by the Supreme Court is scheduled for Friday.
“Yes, it is officially confirmed. They have told us to appear on Friday for the judgment.
“They told us that each party should not have more than two counsels in attendance.
“This, they said, is because they will be delivering seven judgments on that same Friday,” he said.
