The selection of Engr. Mohammed Jibrin Imam, a former APC State Chairman, to the position of Niger State Independent National Electoral Committee (NSINEC) has been denounced by the PDP in Niger State.

In a statement signed by Yahaya Ability, State Vice Chairman and Zonal Chairman of the Niger North Senatorial District, the PDP opposed the appointment.

“During the PDP administration, particularly under Governor Engr. A.A. Kure, the State INEC Chairman was Alhaji Maman Auna, a neutral civil servant. Similarly, during His Excellency Governor Muazu Babangida Aliyu’s administration, the Chief Servant, it was Alhaji Danlami Dallatu, a neutral person.

“Even during the APC administration of Governor Abubakar Sani Bello, it was Alhaji Baba Aminu, a civil servant, ensuring free and fair elections,” Ability said.

“Why is your own different, imposing your will on the people without carrying everyone along?” he asked, challenging the governor’s decision.

The PDP stated that the appointment undermines public trust and generates fear among opposition parties.

The party underlined that electoral impartiality is guaranteed by the Nigerian constitution.

Ability stated, “No opposition party can confidently participate in elections under an electoral body led by a member of the ruling party.”

To guarantee an even playing field for all parties, the PDP requested Governor Mohammed Bago to revoke the appointment and rebuild public trust in the election process.

The party said that Niger State should not have a system that favors one party over another, but rather be treated fairly.

Remember how Governor Mohammed Bago chose six other people, including Engineer Muhammad Jibrin Imam, to lead the NSIEC?

Permanent Commissioner I is Barr. M.A. Liman; Permanent Commissioner II is Nasiru Ubandiya; Permanent Commissioner III is Yahaya Idris Abara; and Permanent Commissioner IV is Capt. Mohammed Baro.

Additional Permanent Commissioners include Barr. Ahmed Borgu as Permanent Commissioner VII, Kabiru Tanko Zama as Permanent Commissioner V, and Barr. Amina Guar as Permanent Commissioner VI.

According to the governor, their appointment is subject to confirmation by the State House of Assembly.
