Alhaji Yusuf Dingyadi, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) National Chairman and Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, has addressed claims of bias in the National Secretary’s appointment made by certain party members.

Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, the Acting National Chairman, is accused of endorsing a particular candidate for the job.

When Damagum was accused of undermining the National Working Committee’s (NWC) rulings on the National Secretary’s matter, Dingyadi stood up for him.

“It is unfair to accuse Ambassador Damagum, who has worked tirelessly to elevate the party and unite its leadership, of sabotaging the NWC’s efforts,” Dingyadi stated.

“His leadership has been instrumental in maintaining party unity and cohesion, especially after the 2023 general elections.”

Dingyadi explained that Damagum had gone to Damaturu to attend his cousin’s daughter’s wedding preparations, therefore he wasn’t even in Abuja on the day of the conflict.

Additionally, he pointed out that the charges against Damagum were the product of party factions, especially those from the north, who were supported by those looking to install obedient leaders in order to achieve their own goals.

Dingyadi said that Damagum has persisted in fostering the party’s expansion and cohesion in spite of these obstacles.

“The rumors about his alleged connections with the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, are baseless. Ambassador Damagum remains fully committed to the party’s progress.”

Damagum has demonstrated unflinching commitment to the PDP in his role as Acting National Chairman by setting up meetings, handling disciplinary matters through reconciliation, and putting the party’s unity ahead of his own interests.

In closing, Dingyadi reminded the detractors that Damagum is still an official member of the National Working Committee and other constitutionally authorized bodies.

“Those making these accusations are ultimately harming the party, undermining the very institutions that ensure its survival. Damagum’s leadership is grounded in constitutional provisions,” he said.
