Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has asserted that his nomination as the FCT minister was confirmed and accepted by Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP.
Wike claimed that once President Bola Tinubu gave him the ministerial post, he wrote to the PDP at every level.
During an appearance on Politics Today on Channels TV, Wike claimed that Fubara and the PDP urged him to take the job.
“Before I took this appointment, I wrote to the PDP. I wrote to PDP National; I wrote to PDP Zonal; I wrote to PDP in my state.
“My governor also signed a letter that I should take the appointment.
“Yes, it’s true. The zonal party wrote that I should accept,” he said.
Tinubu had appointed Wike as FCT Minister following his victory at the last presidential election.
Wike had supported Tinubu in the 2023 election, working against Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s nominee for president.
However, Wike and Governor Fubara, his successor, had a falling out immediately after Wike was appointed as the FCT minister due to accusations that Wike was forcing his preference and rules on the new Governor.
The state has been embroiled in a crisis ever since.
