Ahead of the general elections in 2027, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Abia North zone has reaffirmed its intention to retake the area and other regions of the state.

Senator Orji Kalu, Deputy Speaker House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, Ibe Okwara Osonwa, Amobi Ogah, and other lawmakers are from Abia North.

Before the APC and LP swept it away in the 2019 and 2023 elections, it was dominated by the PDP.

However, during a stakeholders’ meeting at Etugo Ogah’s country home in Isuikwuato, PDP zonal leaders and stakeholders from five LGAs—Ohafia, Arochukwu, Isuikwuato, Umunnochi, and Bende—said they had decided to retake the Abia North zone, the Government House, and other areas of the State for PDP in 2027.

The PDP State Legal Adviser, Barr. Kingsley Imaga, read the communique at the end of the meeting and stated that the main topics of discussion were party unity, progress, and future success plan.

The communique stated that the leaders reaffirmed their shared determination to create a stronger force capable of winning future elections by a wide margin, seizing control of Government House in Umuahia, and establishing a government that accurately represents the wishes and ambitions of the populace.

They also reaffirmed the significance of internal unity, loyalty, and grassroots mobilization, and they underlined continued support for all party structures, from the ward to the state level.

“The time to rebuild and reclaim Abia State is now. We leave this meeting reinvigorated and inspired with a new sense of hope to enthrone good governance”, the communique read in part.

The chairman of the Abia North PDP, Gabriel Elendu, reassured members that the party was still strong and cohesive in the region and that the majority of its former members would rejoin.

Abraham Amah, the chairman of the Abia State PDP, stated in his speech that the party will only nominate respectable candidates in 2027 and that the days of imposing candidates were ended.

“Each local government will choose their candidates. You have to show capacity before you emerge.

“Our nominations and tickets will only go to the best, those who truly represent the people”, he affirmed.
