Former Atiku Abubakar 2023 Presidential Campaign Committee member Adetokunbo Pearse stated on Thursday that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has a strong chance of defeating President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Makinde has the ability and moral fiber to run against Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, according to Pearse.

The Lagos PDP chairman responded to the party zoning its presidential ticket to the South on TVC’s show This Morning with Uncle Yori.

He said that previous presidential candidate Peter Obi would have been able to run for president if the PDP had zoned its ticket to the South.

According to Pearse: “So long as the zoning is made to the South, Seyi Makinde is not the person from the South, he’s from the Southwest. Anybody from the Southwest, Southeast, South-South can contest, and that’s why some people are trying to bring in Jonathan to come and contest.

“If Obi had been in the party, this would have been his time to run for office, this thing is not zoned to any individual.

“Makinde would come into the race and contest, he has been doing a lot of things to contest and doing a lot to impress the party and delegates to support him, so if he gets the nomination, he becomes our candidate and all of us will support him.

“I happened to be a person who has declared his interest in supporting him, so I’m promoting because based on his records and character that he (Makinde) will be a great candidate and stands a good chance of defeating Tinubu in 2027.

“That’s my position, he’s not going to be the only one running unless everybody else decides not to run.

“I think so, know so, and believe it sincerely that Makinde can take on Tinubu.”
