Peter Obi paid me surprise visit with ‘Ghana Must Go’ bag – Charly Boy

Veteran entertainer and activist Charles Oputa, widely known as Charly Boy, has shared an unexpected gesture he received from Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate.

Posting on his X account, Charly Boy recounted that around 1 a.m., he got a call from Obi, informing him of a planned courtesy visit at about 5 a.m.

Despite the early timing, Charly Boy agreed, and Obi later showed up at his residence carrying a “Ghana Must Go” bag filled not with money, but with a variety of fruits.

In pidgin English, Charly Boy wrote, “as I come downstairs to meet him, na so I see one big Ghana Must Go by the entrance of my sitting room. I look at the bag, I just dey wonder, Wetin fit dey inside this bag?

“We siddon gist about Nigeria, about politics, about family, etc, for almost 2 hours.

“Na so Obi come say, ‘See small thing I bring for you.’ I said, Thank you, sir, without even opening it.

“As Obi waka go, I say make I peep inside this bag. My people, you can never imagine wetin full inside this bag.

“Inside the bag was 3bottles of roasted ground nuts. Many alligator pepper, kolanuts, pawpaw, oranges, agara, mangos, bananas etc etc. wey Obi pack by himself.

“I just don’t know when I fall for ground begin laugh.

“As i call am to thank am, He say, ‘Senior I no fit give you money, but I fit give you this one, na my hand pick.’ Which kind of native intelligence pass this one?”

Charly Boy, a staunch supporter of Peter Obi and a member of the Obidient movement, had vigorously campaigned for the Labour Party during the 2023 presidential election.
