Youths in the impacted towns have charged the military and police to drive out the terrorists or face the possibility of enforcing laws themselves in response to the ongoing attacks that have resulted in mass killings and the annexation of communities in Plateau State’s Bokkos Local Government Area.

The Bokkos Concerned Youth (BCY) issued the warning during a news conference in Jos on Thursday, stating that security authorities must act immediately due to the current situation in the council, where Fulani militias had looted over 60 villages.

The group urged the military and police to hunt out their assailants while attacks and killings go unchecked, according to a statement released by BCY President Dapet Chris Ortega at the conclusion of the news conference.

Ortega conveyed the group’s disappointment that, even though they have refrained from using force to protect their communities, it is depressing that their people continue to face daily attacks and murders, forcing many of them to leave their ancestral lands as their attackers seize their homes and lands.

Ortega claims that more than 61 settlements have seen violent attacks, leaving many people displaced in Bokkos, and that more than 10 communities have been completely looted and taken over by bandits.

He emphasized that our people have been the victims of needless murders, forced relocations, and abductions by bandits for more than a decade.

“The frequency and severity of the attacks have left the people scared and gripped with anxiety and uncertainty,” he said, citing Hokk, Nawula, Pangkap, Luwapan, Fokoldep, Dangru, Bodel, Duun, and Dulu as some of the impacted villages that have been overrun by the bandits.

“Innocent families, including women and children, have been completely wiped away, leaving thousands of lives lost and properties worth billions destroyed by the activities of these bandits.

“If the military and police cannot protect us and chase these terrorists out of our lands, we will have no option than to take laws into our hands.

“We can no longer sit back and watch our people killed and our communities sacked,” Ortega lamented.
