Eight individuals have been taken into custody by the Niger State Police Command in two different cases involving armed robbery and illicit mining in the state capital, Minna.

at a statement released on Saturday, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the spokesman for the Niger State Police, stated that four individuals were arrested on August 18, 2025, after police officers conducted a sting operation at an illegal mining site at Mechanic Bye-Pass, Minna:

Samaila Nuhu, 20, Ahmad Moh’d, 17, Musa Aliyu, 20, and Umar Salihu, 47, are among the suspects.

According to Abiodun, the suspects were discovered at the illicit mining site with ten headpans, six shovels, and three diggers.

The accused are being investigated and will face appropriate charges, he continued.

Additionally, on August 19, 2025, at 2:00 pm, Sauka-Kahuta Minna, a victim of a robbery on Fadama Mandela Road, reported to Tudun-Wada Police Division that on August 18, at around 8:00 pm, a group of approximately 16 suspected thieves conspired and robbed them in the vicinity.

“The items allegedly carted away include; one handset valued at about N75,000, a sum of N158,000, and foodstuffs including two bottles of palm oil. During the robbery, one of the victims was stabbed on the left leg with a knife,” he disclosed.

Abiodun stated that four suspects of the crime—Mamud Mohammed, Abubakar Musa Amadu Umar, and Abdulkadir Suleiman—all from Sauka-Kahuta, Minna, were taken into custody during the technical intelligence probe.

According to the police spokesperson, one of the injured victims also recognized the suspects as being part of the gang that attacked them.

Among the items found are three screwdrivers, two knives, three cutlasses, two SIM cards that were in the stolen phone, and some charms.

The suspects have been moved to SCID Minna for additional examination and ongoing arrest attempts.
