Police begin investigation on Abia suicide victim’s case, to conduct autopsy

The Abia State Police Command has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a young man, Chukwuka Nwosu, whose body was found hanging from a fence in Olokoro, located in Umuahia South Local Government Area.

Authorities have confirmed that the deceased’s body has been moved to a mortuary for proper preservation and a post-mortem examination.

Nwosu’s body was discovered on Thursday of last week, not far from his parked Toyota Corolla, which was located near the scene along Umudike Road in Olokoro.

Providing an update on the case, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Abia State Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, stated that officers received a report on April 17, 2025, indicating that “the lifeless body of Chukwuka Nwosu was found hung with a belt on a fence along Umudike road, Olokoro.”

“Detectives from Ubakala Divisional Headquarters visited the crime scene where the lifeless body with no sign of violence on him, was found.

“Photograph taken, corpse removed and deposited at Madonna mortuary for preservation and autopsy, preliminary investigation is ongoing”, the Police spokesperson said.

The passing of the young man stirred unrest in the Umutowe autonomous community last week. However, the traditional ruler, Eze Godfrey Onwuka, along with his council, urged residents to remain calm and not resort to self-help. He assured the community that the Eze-in-Council, in partnership with the local vigilante group, is working closely with the police to ensure a comprehensive investigation is conducted.
