Police clarifies on viral video of young northern men trooping into Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has responded to a widely circulated video showing a large group of young men from the northern region gathered outside the Dano Company premises in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.

The video, which has been gaining attention on social media, sparked unease in parts of the state over potential security risks.

In response, the command, through a statement released by its spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, explained that the individuals in question had arrived in Lagos from Katsina State. He clarified that they were brought in to “work as labourers at the Dangote Refinery in Lekki”.

Hundeyin noted that the group consisted of approximately 89 men.

He also shared that a contractor affiliated with the refinery confirmed to the police that he personally arranged for the labourers’ relocation from Katsina to Lagos for lawful employment.

The contractor’s explanation was “corroborated by the Chief Security Officer, CSO, of the refinery, who also affirmed that the labourers were verified and cleared for entry into the facility and would be residing in the facility.”

“The individuals were thoroughly searched, and no incriminating items were found in their possession.

“Furthermore, each person properly identified themselves and presented their National Identification Numbers, NINs, which were duly verified”.
