The Nigerian police have apprehended seven criminals connected to cyber fraud and cross-border human trafficking networks, broke a trafficking conspiracy, and rescued 46 Ghanaian nationals who were trafficked into Nigeria.
According to a statement from Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, the rescue came after two operations against transnational organized crime that were coordinated by the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja.
According to Adejobi, 31 victims who were trafficked from Ghana to Nigeria under the pretense of finding work in Europe were rescued as a result of one of the operations, which was carried out in cooperation with INTERPOL NCB Accra. He emphasized that the victims were subsequently coerced into engaging in fraudulent internet marketing activities connected to the QNET network.
He stated that initial inquiries showed that in August 2024, a Ghanaian national named Samuel Dankwah Opoku was enticed to Spain by a suspect named George Tenkron with a fictitious job offer.
After paying GHC 30,000 to a Ghanaian living in Nigeria named Attah Amankwaah, a well-known QNET affiliate, Opoku was sent to Nigeria and lured into the company’s fraudulent operations.
The Force Spokesman further revealed that during a raid on their operations base, agents acting on reliable information detained six individuals, including Amankwaah, and seized incriminating papers.
