Prince Harry makes “Significant Donation” to Nottingham Charity

A Nottingham charity, Himmah, has received a substantial donation from the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry. The charity, which works to tackle racism and poverty in the city, will use the funds to provide 650 food parcels for vulnerable families.

“Nottingham holds a special place in my heart, having had the privilege of visiting and supporting the community there for over a decade,” Prince Harry wrote in a letter to the charity. “The incredible work Himmah does to address food insecurity, poverty, and social exclusion should be recognised and applauded.”

The charity’s director, Sajid Mohammed, was “gobsmacked and hugely humbled” by the donation, which he described as “life-changing” for the people of Nottingham. “It really touched the trustees, the volunteers, our service users, and staff that ordinary people like us are supported by some of the world’s most important people,” he said

Himmah provides over 1,300 emergency food parcels every month and serves more than 1,200 hot meals from its community hub. The charity has seen a significant increase in demand during the pandemic and cost-of-living crisis, with many service users struggling to afford basic necessities.

The donation will also enable the charity to purchase new equipment for its community centre, which provides hot meals three times a week. Mr. Mohammed expressed his gratitude to Prince Harry, saying: “To have been chosen by such a high-profile royal once is amazing, but to have been supported by Prince Harry too… shows genuine compassion and care for the people of Nottingham.”

The Duchess of Sussex had previously donated £10,000 to the charity in 2020
