Pro-Fubara lawmakers head to Supreme Court to challenge recent Appeal judgement

Devoted to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have announced their intention to file an appeal against the recent Court of Appeal verdict concerning the jurisdiction of the Rivers State High Court in suit number PHC/1512/CS/2024. They have labelled the decision as an injustice.
Victor Oko-Jumbo, the speaker of the MPs who support Fubara, made this announcement on Friday during a plenary session in Port Harcourt.

Oko-Jumbo announced that their legal team has been given the go-ahead to file an expeditious appeal with the Supreme Court in order to contest the Court of Appeal’s ruling.

According to what he stated, the Court of Appeal did not rule that Martins Amaewhule and twenty-four others did not switch from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressive Congress (APC), despite what had been suspected.

In line with the previous declaration made by Ehie Edison, the former Speaker and current Chief of Staff to the Governor, Oko-Jumbo emphasised that there cannot be two Houses of Assembly in Rivers State or any other state in Nigeria. He further asserted that Amaewhule and his team are no longer members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, which has not been overturned by any court of competent jurisdiction.

The Rivers State Transport Company Reform Bill 2024 and the Rivers State Emergency Management Bill 2024 were passed on their first reading at the plenary session.
