Truck drivers have blocked the Abuja–Keffi expressway in protest against the alleged assault and arrest of one of their colleagues, causing major traffic disruptions.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that the incident involved a VIP convoy that confronted a truck driver for allegedly not yielding the right of way.

The situation intensified, resulting in allegations of assault and the driver being arrested by security personnel.

As a reaction, other truck drivers organized a blockade that closed off incoming and outgoing traffic in the vicinity of Mararaba (located in Nasarawa State), thus severing a key access point to and from Abuja.

The demonstration has resulted in thousands of stranded commuters and traffic extending for several kilometers.

At the time this report was prepared, security authorities had not yet released an official statement regarding the development.
