Protest: Tell your father we’re suffering – VeryDarkMan tells Tinubu’s daughter

President Bola Tinubu’s daughter Folashade has come under fire from social media critic Martin Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, for her recent remarks urging Nigerians to give her father three years in government before assessing his performance.

In a recent statement, Folashade Tinubu urged people to exercise patience and discouraged them from taking part in the impending hunger protest that is set to take place from August 1 to August 10.

In a video posted on Monday in response to the comment, VeryDarkMan voiced his deep dislike of Folashade’s words.

He charged her with ignoring the dire economic hardships that Nigerians are experiencing as a result of Tinubu’s leadership.

The social media critic claims that the first year of the new administration has been characterised by severe economic hardship and a sharp increase in fuel prices.

“Did you realize that people will not be complaining if your father’s first year in office was not the worst in Nigeria’s presidential history?” VeryDarkMan queried.

He advised Folashade to convince her father to deal with the escalating financial difficulties and prevent things from getting worse.

In the same spirit, he brought up Tinubu’s prior resistance to fuel price hikes under former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, arguing that the practices of the current administration now justify protests of a similar nature.

While denouncing any potential violence connected to the protests, he underlined how critical it is to defend economic rights.

“Warn your father, tell him that Nigerians are suffering. Talk to Daddy for us. Did you warn your dad when he went to protest against Goodluck Jonathan when he raised the fuel price from N65 to N87? The only thing I won’t approve of is that the protesters are violent. Stand for your rights, Nigerians.

“Protest, but don’t loot. Look at the prices of things. Fuel is N700 plus, and it is still not available. See the queues in gas stations. You can’t increase the price of things, and they will still not be available,” he added.

  • Transparency is much a big capital for leadership. That many politicians are bereft of, hence their followers will always challenge them. It does a leader a world of good if he tells the people what it is he is confronting. So Tinubu should have told Nigerians the exact situation of the nation's economy and what his team thinks should be done. Then he can invite Nigerians to speak to it. He should tell Nigerians the sacrifice we must all make beginning with the elected officers. Any leader that does this will get the support of the people.
