Protesters have continued their daily demonstration at the Abuja offices of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), calling for a thorough investigation into allegations against the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Engr. Farouk Ahmed.

The group is urging authorities to probe claims that Ahmed allegedly diverted over $5 million in public funds to finance his children’s overseas education in luxury institutions.

They are also calling for an inquiry into accusations of nepotism and conflict of interest, following the reported employment of Ahmed’s son, Faisal, at Oando PLC—a company regulated by the NMDPRA.

In addition, the protesters raised concerns over what they describe as weakened regulatory standards under Ahmed’s leadership, especially regarding the approval of diesel imports containing high sulphur levels. They emphasized the environmental and health risks posed by such products.

Olayemi Isaac, speaking for the group, stressed the seriousness of the allegations and called for swift action.

“The allegations against Engr. Farouk Ahmed are serious and demand immediate action. We won’t let him continue to abuse his office and undermine the integrity of the NMDPRA. The protesters won’t back down until Engr. Farouk Ahmed is brought to justice.

“We’ll continue to occupy the CCB and ICPC offices until our demands are met.

“The stench of corruption from the NMDPRA is unbearable. If the Attorney General, ICPC, or CCB refuses to act, then they are complicit in the cover-up of a scandal that disgraces every law-abiding Nigerian.

“The allegations point to a collapse of accountability in public governance. If the Petroleum Industry Act is to mean anything, those enforcing it must be held to the highest standards,” Olayemi said.

The demonstrators are demanding the immediate formation of a special investigative committee to review all financial dealings tied to Ahmed, as well as a full audit of permits issued under his leadership.

They insist that any findings from the investigation must lead to appropriate legal and disciplinary action.
