Protests: Nigerians have shown they’re not slaves – Aisha Yesufu

Aisha Yesufu, a well-known activist, claimed on Saturday that Nigerians had demonstrated they were not slaves.

Yesufu praised the Nigerians who participated in the one million-man march and the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests, defying the country’s security forces.

Protest organisers had promised to stage a one-million-man march through each of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Saturday as the culmination of the ten-day #EndBadGovernance protests.

The demonstrators had called for the reinstatement of fuel subsidy among other things.

According to ZINGTIE, protests in numerous states—Kano, Kanu, Plateau, Niger, Jigawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Yobe, and Borno—turned violent, with at least fifteen people reported dead, numerous injured, and property destroyed.

Yesufu posted on X: “I am so proud of Nigeria citizens who defied the brutality of the Nigerian security agents and kept protesting.

“They showed they are Active Citizens not Slaves. May the souls of those killed continue to rest in peace.”
