LaLiga president Javier Tebas has spoken out for the first time since reports emerged suggesting that Real Madrid had threatened to leave LaLiga.
The Madrid club is angry over the standard of refereeing in Spain.
Sport reported that Madrid might make a dramatic move to exit LaLiga and join another league.
This comes after Jude Bellingham’s red card during their 1-1 draw with Osasuna.
Bellingham was sent off by referee José Luis Munuera Montero for using foul and abusive language in the 39th minute.
Montero claimed that the 21-year-old had shouted “f*** you” at him in frustration.
However, Bellingham denied this, stating he had said “f*** off” and that it was directed at himself, not the referee.
Tebas has now responded to Real Madrid’s threats, saying there is no chance of them being carried out.
“It’s a hoax,” Tebas said at Los Desayunos de La Crónica de Badajoz on Tuesday.
“It’s impossible, and they themselves know it. There is a sports law that states Spanish clubs are obliged to play in national competitions.
“Their threat is merely part of the strategy they are following. Which league are they going to go to?”
Tebas’ comments seem to dismiss any possibility of Real Madrid switching leagues, but such a move would already face significant obstacles.
Any potential switch would require approval from FIFA, the league they wish to join, and UEFA.
