Regalo Hope Foundation, a skill development organisation, has partnered with the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), to provide students with practical, industry-based skills to enhance their employability. The partnership aims to bridge the gap between academic grades and employable skills, enabling students to navigate their future with confidence.

The Founder and Project Director of Regalo Hope Foundation, Chinenye Onuorah, stated that the organisation understands the need to equip students with skills that go beyond academic grades. “We brought the workshop to the school to proffer knowledge that will make the students navigate their journey into the future to enable them to become better persons both in the classroom grades and labour market skills,” she said.

Onuorah emphasised the importance of digital skills in today’s world, noting that students need access to information that affords them the opportunity to navigate properly with outside school requirements. She urged the federal government to partner with Imo State to enter into public-private partnerships with youth development organisations to bring more digital and employability skills to the youths of the state.

The Director of FUTO Career Service Centre, Prof. Oforegbunam Ebiringa, noted that there is a national problem of graduate youth unemployment that requires collective effort to address. “The traditional university education system emphasisesclassroom knowledge and distinctions. There’s a disconnect when the students get into the world. You discover that the students are not job ready,” he said.

Ebiringa added that the university’s Career Service Centre was established to bridge the gap between academic grades and employable skills. “There’s a need for reorientation to make students better equipped when they graduate,” he emphasised.
