A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Mike Ozekhome, has issued a warning that by the end of 2024, the naira may be exchanged for N4,000 against the US dollar due to the country’s current economic hardship.
Nothing was happening, according to Ozekhome, to indicate that the value of the naira relative to the dollar would increase.
He made this revelation on Tuesday during an appearance on Politics Today on Channels TV.
He said: “Before the end of this year, if we are not careful, the Naira may exchange for N4000 to the dollar because there is nothing in place.
”If we are not careful we will get to the situation in Ghana, where they were carrying cedis in baskets to the market to go and buy things and put in their pockets.
”Why do BDCs sit under the trees and tables to control our economy?”
Even though Ozekhome continued to criticise federal policy, he said that the government should try all in its power to lessen suffering by starting over from scratch.
Additionally, he expressed amazement that the current leadership is attributing the country’s economic situation to its predecessors.
” But to me, it is most embarrassing when I see officials of this government blaming the Jonathan government that left office in 2015, nearly 10 years ago.”
” Ironically blaming his own predecessor whom they took over from in the APC government.”
” I think everything has gone wrong,” he said
He added that poverty is the result of the present administration’s “renewed hope” slogan.
” This is not renewed hope, this is renewed poverty.”
