In Edo State, a retired secondary school teacher named Mr. Andrew Imuekheme was murdered by gunmen who were thought to be herders.

The victim was killed on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, on his way back from his farm, according to ZINGTIE.

The Etsako West Local Government Area’s Ikabigbo hamlet is where the incident took place.

The deceased reportedly encountered the herders, who kidnapped him, dragged him into the wilderness, and then killed him.

A woman had barely fled from the herders earlier in the day, according to a local who spoke on condition of anonymity.

According to the local, the woman alerted the hunters and vigilantes to the location of the gunmen in the countryside, who were thought to be kidnappers.

The hunters and vigilantes organized for bush combing as a result of the information. In order to prevent being killed, villagers began phoning family members who had left for the farm to return home.

“The vigilantes later found his motorcycle and his shoes while his corpse was later found in the evening after serious bush combing with gunshot and machete cut injuries,” the local said

According to Chief Braimah Alegeh, the community’s traditional leader, who denounced his subject’s death, his people value peace.

In order for people to visit the farm without fear of being killed by herders, he urged the state administration and security forces to support the community.

“We are predominantly farmers and peace loving people, government and security agents should come to our aid so that we have peace”, he stated.

Moses Yamu, the Edo State Police Command’s public relations officer, had not yet responded to inquiries on the incident as of the time of publication.

Yamu claimed to be at a function when contacted. He promised to get back to newsmen after the event.

According to ZINGTIE, the retired teacher’s death takes the total number of people slain by herders in the town to three.

Two years ago, when kidnappers broke into the village, they assassinated a Catholic priest and the community’s hunter chairman.

A nonagenarian father and other family members were left behind by the late Andrew Imuekheme, who was in his early 60s.
