The horrifying discovery of Prudence Nkosi’s decaying body in her bathroom has devastated the Rooisteen community. According to reports, the 36-year-old woman had been missing for a few days when her neighbors sounded the alarm because of an unpleasant smell emanating from her apartment. On Tuesday morning, authorities made the sobering finding.

Police sources claim that 38-year-old Thabang Senyenyane, Nkosi’s boyfriend, killed her and left the area soon after allegedly carrying out the murder. According to reports, he went to his homeland in Qwa-Qwa, Free State, and subsequently committed suicide there.

Nkosi may have been killed for a few days before her body was found, according to preliminary investigations. Since then, forensic investigators have surrounded the area and are attempting to ascertain the precise cause and time of death. Even though the suspect is no longer alive, a murder docket has been launched.

The community has been even more astonished to learn that Senyenyane was once charged with murder in a case that had nothing to do with it. People in the community are now wondering how he was still free, even if the specifics of that previous complaint are still unclear.

The murder has infuriated local politicians and activists against gender-based violence, many of whom have called for harsher punishments for those who commit acts of violence against women.

“This is yet another tragic reminder of how vulnerable women continue to be in our society. Prudence’s life was cut short by someone who was supposed to love and protect her,” said one local activist during a vigil held outside her flat on Wednesday.

Friends and coworkers recall Nkosi as a quiet, gentle, and diligent woman. She had aspirations of continuing her education while working as an administrative assistant at a nearby clinic.

Under the hashtag #GBVMustFall, cries for justice and safety for women nationwide are once again becoming louder as the community grieves her tragic passing. In the next several days, Prudence Nkosi’s family is anticipated to make an announcement on her funeral plans.
