The Action People’s Party (APP) office in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, was recently attacked. This was denounced by the Coalition for Human Rights Advocacy in Africa (CHRADA).

The Rivers APP secretariat was shaken by an explosion on Monday, which was brought on by the detonation of an improvised explosive device (IED), as reported by the ZINGTIE.

The building sustained major damage as a result of the catastrophe.

In response, the Coalition claimed that the incident was a “clear attempt to disrupt the local government election process and undermine democracy” in a statement signed by Dr. Joyce Anderson Idakwo, the Coalition convener.

Concerns regarding the state’s use of bombs and explosives against political opponents were voiced by CHRADA.

According to them, the action demonstrates a disregard for human life and a “callous willingness to use violence to achieve political goals”.

“These actions demonstrate a blatant disregard for human life and a callous willingness to use violence to achieve political goals,” the statement said.

“The use of explosives and bombs against opponents is a serious violation of human rights and international law.

“The centre is deeply concerned about the escalating violence in Rivers State and its impact on the civilian population.

“Women and children are disproportionately affected by these attacks, and we must protect them.

“We urge the Nigerian government to take immediate action to protect its citizens and hold perpetrators accountable,” the statement added.

According to ZINGTIE, a number of attacks by unidentified individuals have resulted from the political unrest that has persisted in Rivers State.

At political events, supporters of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and those of his predecessor, Governor Nyesom Wike, have battled multiple times.
