Following Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s statement on Friday that his administration had revoked 10,000 jobs in the State Civil Service that had been granted by the previous administration, the political crisis that has been plaguing Rivers State for some time took a new turn.
Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and his predecessor, approved the employments.
In an interactive session with stakeholders on Friday in Port Harcourt, the governor announced that a new recruitment process would be launched shortly.
According to ZINGTIE, Wike authorised the recruitment of a large number of young people on an emergency basis prior to the end of his term in order to cover the personnel shortage in the state.
However, Fubara claimed that the hiring procedure was faulty and compromised by those handling it.
The governor clarified that upon closer examination of the identities of the individuals chosen from the state’s 23 local government districts, it was discovered that they were individuals smuggled in for political patronage, citing their advanced age.
“You will agree with me that when we subjected those names to proper scrutiny, most of those names, in fact, 60 per cent of those names were over-aged. They were names that people brought for political patronage.
“But what we are talking about today is employment for the future. I, personally after the analysis of those things, said ‘How will you employ somebody who is 52 years old as a civil servant?” Fubara queried.
