Governor Seyi Makinde has pleaded with Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike not set fire on Oyo State.
A few weeks earlier, Wike had threatened to “put fire and cause a political crisis in the state of any PDP governors” if they continued to support Sim Fubara, the governor of Rivers State, to assume control of the party’s structures in the state.
Makinde made the request on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at a reception in Port Harcourt that the Ijaw World Congress hosted in honour of Wike.
Makinde clarified that the former governor earned the award because of his outstanding work for the state and his people.
According to him, ” I came to Oyo to identify with my brother and the celebrant of today(Nyesome Wike). When I showed up in Rivers yesterday (Friday) I told him that I brought a peace offering because he has been boasting that he would put fire in some states. I told him please, don’t set fire in Oyo State.
“Let me say on behalf of other governor colleagues and past governors here that you have done well for your people and since I came I have seen projects that were done during your eight years tenure as governor.”
