Rivers crisis: Why police are at Rivers Assembly quarters – Commissioner Disu

Olatunji Disu, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, has explained the police presence at the Rivers State House of Assembly Quarters in Port Harcourt.

In an exclusive interview with Channels Television, Disu clarified that the police were just there at the Quarters to prevent any violations of the law.

The explanation came in the wake of rumours that police personnel had taken over the assembly chambers in the midst of the ongoing struggle for control of the assembly.

Men from the Nigeria Police Force reportedly took control of the Rivers State House of Assembly complex’s entry and departure on Friday, according to the ZINGTIE.

More than thirty police officers surrounded the lawmakers’ estate’s first and second gates, and roughly twenty-five patrol trucks were utilised to block the other two entrances.

This occurred soon after Speaker of the House Martins Amaewhule, who is currently under fire, claimed that Governor Sim Fubara was preparing to destroy the legislative buildings.

In contrast to rumours of a significant police presence at the Assembly quarters, the Commissioner stated that there were only four patrol cars stationed there.

Disu stated that the interim injunction prohibiting pro-Wike politicians from representing themselves as legislators had yet to be formally communicated to the command by the court.
