Some political heavyweights in the state have indicated support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara, the estranged political son of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) governor Nyesom Wike.

They include Prince Uche Secondus, Rt. Hon. Austin Opara, Alabo Abiye Sekibo, and Sir Celestine Omehia, a former governor.

Fubara, the state governor, made the announcement on Thursday during the 2026 New Year State Banquet, which was held at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

Speaking at the event, Fubara said distinguished “leaders who sat with us today signal their firm support not only for this administration but also for President Bola Tinubu”.

The FCT Minister recently fell out with the governor, months after President Bola Tinubu negotiated a truce between the two.

In recent developments, the outgoing governor stated that his replacement had diverged from what was agreed upon during the peace talks.

Wike reiterated that agreement is agreement, indicating a willingness to end the governor’s re-election campaign.
