Rotation of Ohanaeze President General sacrosanct — Youth Wing

The youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has stated that having the President General from Rivers State is irreversible, ahead of the organization’s general election in early 2025.

According to the Ohanaeze youth wing, this is consistent with the top Igbo socio-cultural organization’s established rotating premise.

According to ZINGTIE, the late Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu was the last person to hold the office.

According to the youth wing’s stance, Rivers State is poised to produce the next president general in that alphabetical order.

In a statement released Thursday following their 57th National Executive Committee meeting, which was held at the Ohanaeze Ndigbo National Secretariat in Enugu and signed by Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, the youth wing’s national president, the group urged Ime Obi, the organization’s highest decision-making body, to strictly follow the rules in order to prevent any internal crises.

The youth wing stressed the importance of the rotational arrangement in preserving unity and equity, arguing that breaking the principle could cause strife and weaken Ndigbo’s togetherness.

“We stand firmly by the provisions of the Constitution of Ohanaeze Ndigbo on the rotation of the Office of the President General.

“Therefore, it is the turn of Igbo in Rivers State to produce the next President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, after Imo State.

“This provision is sacrosanct and any attempt of compromise shall be met with stiff resistance.

“We, therefore, urge other organs of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and limited to the Ime Obi, Executive Committee of Ohanaeze Ndigbo at State and LGA, Council of Ndi Eze, Elders Council and the Women Wing to rise to the occasion and provide leadership for Ndigbo at this crucial moment,” he said.

They praised the South East governors and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the dignified and heartfelt funeral given to the late Chief Iwuanyanwu.

The youth group voiced their worry over Nigerians’ ongoing hardship due to the exorbitant price of energy and other associated goods.

The organisation lamented what it described as “the conscious and continuous disenfranchisement of Igbo youths from the various corporate social responsibilities by the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, NNPCL and other federal parastatals” in response to the Port Harcourt Refinery’s reopening.

With the emphasis that “this shall accord us a sense of belonging to contribute immensely to national unity and security in the South East and Nigeria at large,” it demanded an end to such mistreatment.
